Blessed Hope

Text: 1 Peter 1 : 3

This sermon focuses on our blessed hope—our heavenly citizenship. As inhabitants of this earthly realm, we are indeed aliens and strangers, and thus we are called to abstain from earthly desires. Our status as aliens and strangers stems from our transient journey through life. This very context shapes the foundation of Peter’s epistle to the scattered saints in 1 Peter.

Peter’s exhortation does not merely implore the saints to pray against trials. While it is within our realm to seek deliverance from trials through prayer, Peter’s emphasis lies in the unwavering ability to rejoice in the Lord regardless of circumstances. The essence of nurturing the soul transcends the present and reaches towards the heavenly and eternal.

Peter ardently advocates for preparing for the eternal, for heaven, and for Christ. He does so without diminishing the significance of the challenges that are endured. Gratitude surfaces as Peter unveils the truth of salvation to the people. It is worth acknowledging that this life is not the entirety of our existence. Casual contemplation of sin naturally progresses to profound contemplation of the cross and Christ’s ultimate sacrifice.

Evident joy resonates in Peter’s words as he eloquently depicts the salvation bestowed by God upon His people.
