Christ Our Only Reconciler

Text: Colossians 1:20

God is willing to pursue reconciliation. God went to great lengths to reconcile us to himself.

God’s goodness and his gracious willingness to do what is kind and helpful are described in Psalm 119:68. He gave us his Son out of the abundance of his kindness. God’s goodness serves to highlight how sinful we are. The pleasant moment of reconciliation also serves as a reminder of our sin. Without sin, there would be no need for reconciliation.

We were created good by a good God, but like a bull in a china shop, we destroyed everything. Everything needs reconciliation because everything is at enmity with God. God cursed everything because of us.

People often say “it is well.” It’s not well! If it was well there’d be no need for reconciliation. The world that was previously considered good is now in a present evil age, according to Galatians 1:4. According to 1 John 2:15, we should not love the world. Friendship with the world is enmity with God, as James 4:4 warns us.

We live in a cursed world. Reconciliation is designed to pull us out.
